Southern Company reports second-quarter 2026 earnings

ATLANTA – Southern Company today reported second-quarter earnings of $1.2 billion, or $1.03 per share, in 2026 compared with earnings of $0.9 billion, or $0.80 per share, in the second quarter of 2025. For the six months ended June 30, 2026, Southern Company reported earnings of $2.5 billion, or $2.24 per share, compared with $2.2 billion, or $2.01 per share, for the same period in 2025.

Excluding the items described under “Net Income – Excluding Items” in the table below, Southern Company earned $1.3 billion, or $1.13 per share, during the second quarter of 2026, compared with $1.0 billion, or $0.92 per share, during the second quarter of 2025. For the six months ended June 30, 2026, excluding these items, Southern Company earned $2.8 billion, or $2.46 per share, compared with $2.4 billion, or $2.15 per share, for the same period in 2025.

Adjusted earnings drivers for the second quarter of 2026, as compared with the same period in 2025, were investment in state-regulated utilities, customer usage and growth, higher earnings from equity method investments and lower income taxes, partially offset by higher interest expense.

Second-quarter 2026 operating revenues were $6.98 billion, compared with $6.97 billion for the second quarter of 2025, an increase of 0.1%. For the six months ended June 30, 2026, operating revenues were $15.4 billion, compared with $14.7 billion for the corresponding period in 2025, an increase of 4.2%.

Southern Company reports first-quarter 2026 earnings

ATLANTA – Southern Company today reported first-quarter earnings of $1.4 billion, or $1.21 per share, in 2026 compared with earnings of $1.3 billion, or $1.21 per share, in the first quarter of 2025.

Excluding the items described under “Net Income – Excluding Items” in the table below, Southern Company earned $1.5 billion, or $1.32 per share, during the first quarter of 2026, compared with $1.4 billion, or $1.23 per share, during the first quarter of 2025.

Adjusted earnings drivers for the first quarter of 2026, as compared with 2025, were higher utility revenues, partially offset by milder than normal weather at the regulated electric utilities and higher interest expense.

First-quarter 2026 operating revenues were $8.4 billion, compared with $7.8 billion for the first quarter of 2025, an increase of 8.0%.

Southern Company reports fourth-quarter and full-year 2025 earnings

ATLANTA – Southern Company today reported fourth-quarter earnings of $416 million, or $0.38 per share, in 2025 compared with earnings of $534 million, or $0.49 per share, in the fourth quarter of 2024. Southern Company also reported full-year 2025 earnings of $4.3 billion, or $3.94 per share, compared with $4.4 billion, or $4.02 per share, in 2024.

Excluding the items described under “Net Income – Excluding Items” in the table below, Southern Company earned $612 million, or $0.55 per share, during the fourth quarter of 2025, compared with $544 million, or $0.50 per share, during the fourth quarter of 2024. For the full-year 2025, excluding these items, Southern Company earned $4.7 billion, or $4.30 per share, compared with $4.4 billion, or $4.05 per share, for 2024.

Adjusted earnings drivers for the full year 2025, as compared with 2024, were higher utility revenues, partially offset by higher non-fuel operations and maintenance expenses, depreciation and amortization, and interest expense.

Fourth-quarter 2025 operating revenues were $7.0 billion, compared with $6.3 billion for the fourth quarter of 2024, an increase of 10.1%. Operating revenues for the full year 2025 were $29.6 billion, compared with $26.7 billion in 2024, an increase of 10.6%.
