Founded in 1979, AutoZone is the largest US-based retailer of aftermarket automotive parts and accessories, operating over 7,600 stores and generating over $20 billion in fiscal 2026 sales. Beyond its primary home market (86% of total revenue), the company also maintains a growing presence in Mexico and Brazil. AutoZone caters to two core customer segments: do-it-yourself, which account for roughly two-thirds of its domestic sales, and commercial do-it-for-me customers, which represent the remainder.
Microchip Technology became an independent company in 1989 when it was spun off from General Instrument. More than half of revenue comes from MCUs, which are used in a wide array of electronic devices from remote controls to garage door openers to power windows in autos. The company's strength lies in lower-end 8-bit MCUs that are suitable for a wider range of less technologically advanced devices, but the firm has expanded its presence in higher-end MCUs and analog chips as well.
